About

The charming entrance to the town of Field in my home country of Canada.

Welcome to Field of Adventures. My name is Derek Field, and this is a website of my adventures. I am a 23-year-old student and mountaineer with a strong affinity for discovering the wonders of nature. I like to document what I find through the use of photography, poetry and prose.

I was born and raised in the city of Calgary, Canada. In my teenage years, I represented my home province (Alberta) in both golf and squash. Upon graduation from high school, I migrated south to play NCAA golf and study geology at California Lutheran University in Ventura County. I met my best friends while attending university, and witnessed a fierce passion for the Earth grow collectively within all of us. Soon enough, we found ourselves heading for the wilderness at every given opportunity.

This mentality of adventure – this obsession with what’s around the next corner – happens to mesh almost seamlessly with my area of study. Geology caters very well to the mountain wanderer, and has provided me with a myriad of opportunities for research all across the globe. I’m fortunate to be able to say that my field of work doubles as my field of recreation, and that my life contains a blend of mental and physical stimulation that keeps me far from boredom.

I believe that this website sheds light onto the beauty of nature, and aims to provide entertainment and interest to the armchair adventurer and aspiring alpinist alike.

I hope that you enjoy reading about my travels. I hope that they inspire you to set out and create your own personal adventure.

Cheers,

Derek
